University City Farmers Market is off to a great start.
Online publication Charlotte Five recently declared our market one of its “Five Things To Do” on Saturdays, and with good reason.
The lakeside market at the Shoppes at University Place offers fresh regional produce, live entertainment and cooking demonstrations, children’s programs, local crafts and, new this spring, an outdoor cafe featuring Manolo’s Latin Bakery and Detour Coffeebar.

The state Department of Transportation will hold a public meeting on April 23 to share plans to transform 1.2 miles of University City Boulevard into a six-lane “Superstreet” and close the Back Creek Church Road railroad crossing.
The meeting will take place 4-7 pm April 23 in the Lucas Room at UNC Charlotte’s Cone University Center.
The meeting will be held drop-in style, with state staff available to explain the project, answer questions and receive comments.
Cold Weather Reminder
NewsDear University Heights Residents:
As you may be aware, it is often recommended that smoke detector batteries be changed each year. If you have not already done that, we recommend you replace the batteries now. Also, as cold weather approaches and people are using their heating systems, we recommend everyone check their Carbon Monoxide detectors to ensure they are working as well.
Many owners have a professional company service heating units early in the season. We understand that such companies recommend that Carbon Monoxide Detectors be installed on each level of the home and outside of sleeping areas, and additional alarms recommended 5-20 feet from sources of CO such as a furnace, water heater or fireplace.
If you have any questions about your heating unit or Carbon Monoxide, please contact a licensed HVAC company.
Please stay safe and warm during the winter season!
